NordStar Airlines assisted in saving a polar bear cub

NordStar Airlines participated in the rescue of the polar bear cub left without care of the mother bear. The baby polar bear listed in the International Red Book and the Red Book of Russia was spotted in late September near Dikson settlement in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Krai. Left without parental care the bear cub not only posed a threat to residents of the settlement, but also had no chance to survive in its natural habitat.

To ensure the safety of residents of Dikson and the animal itself a number of measures were organized to move the bear cub fr om its natural habitat to the Krasnoyarsk park of flora and fauna “Roev Ruchey”, wh ere the animal will be provided with the necessary care. NordStar Airlines took part in the rescue of the animal and provided transportation of the animal from the north of the region to the capital of the Krasnoyarsk Krai. A special-purpose cage equipped for the safe transportation of the animal by air was delivered to Norilsk by the airline flight specifically for transportation of the animal together with professional zoologists.

Transportation of such an extraordinary animal required special preparation: from vacating the necessary luggage capacity for the safe accommodation of the animal in the aircraft to coordinating loading and unloading of the animal at the departure and arrival airports.

On October 16, the special passenger was safely delivered to Krasnoyarsk by NordStar Airlines flight accompanied by personnel of “Roev Ruchey”. The animal has borne the flight well and was sent to a new home immediately after the flight.

“We think that the bear cub from Dikson is a girl and most likely we will find a decent pair and decent enclosures for her in the Russian zoos,” — commented Andrei Gorban, director of the Krasnoyarsk park of flora and fauna “Roev Ruchey”. He also thanked NordStar Airlines for their active participation in the rescue of the baby polar predator listed in the Red Book.
